The tiny, high-pitched soprano ocarina isn’t as widely applied as the alto and tenor types, but it’s still well worth having if you’re an ocarina enthusiast, as it is clear, bright tone makes it good for both solo and ensemble playing.
As with other types, the precise range of notes the soprano oc may play will vary, and depend on the instrument’s key, and the manufacturer. As a rough guide, numerous have a range from when it comes to C6 to F7.
Single soprano ocarinas offer a range from 1 to closely 1.5 octaves, which enables them to play most folk and popular melodies. If you want one with a larger range, you could get a double instrument, as these may normally play two octaves, or in a great deal of cases, harmonies.
Types of Soprano Ocarina
Transverse (Sweet Potato)
Transverse (or ‘sweet potato’) ocarinas are the most intimate type to a good deal of people. They’re held pointed to the side, like a flute, and they have rows of finger holes for each hand, with the precise number of holes varying with dissimilar instruments (10 and 12 hole versions are common).
These are once in a while called Zelda ocarinas, as they’re the same shape as those in the ordinary Nintendo game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
Pendant
You may likewise get English pendant instruments, which in general have a more rounded shape. These are played in a vertical position, like a clarinet – even though not similar to with a clarinet, the hands are kept opposite each other. Soprano pendant ocarinas have less holes (usually four finger holes and often one or two thumb holes), which means that a more complex fingering system is applied than with 12 hole ocarinas. They’re often pitched in the key of G.
Inline
Inline types are kept in the same vertical position as pendant ocarinas, but rather of using cross-fingering, they have a linear fingering system, similar to that of a great deal of transverse ocarinas. This makes them both comfortable to hold for long periods and comparatively easy to play.
Making a Purchase
You may buy soprano ocarinas online, as well as in a few music stores, markets etc. However, as with a good deal of things, you’ll find the best range and prices on the internet. Just be sure you buy one that’s designed as a proper musical instrument, and not a toy, as the novelty types aren’t commonly tuned properly.

A great gift for any Zelda fan By crazyoboist I purchased this awhile ago from STL ocarinas, a internet site which makes a good deal of dissimilar kinds of ocarinas. This one is a tenor ocarina in C (concert pitch), made of blue-stained ceramic. It has a written range of A3 to F5 *including flats and sharps* It sounds one octave higher than written, so the tonal range is from A4 (above middle C on the piano) to F6. The “Ocarina of Time” is a tenor and this reproduction covers most of the tonal range. Just a few comparings before I go on: -The lowest note in the “Serenade of Water” (A button on the N64 controller) is the low C on this ocarina. The lowest note the instrument may play is the A beneath that. -The ocarina cannot play the top note in the “Sun’s Song”, but comes close.

Challenging, but I love it! By ZeldaFan Well, I got this introductory and foremost because I’m a big Legend of Zelda fan, but I soon fell in love with the ocarina and how pretty it may sound if played right. Once shipped, it came exceedingly quickly, within four days of placing the order, and the product itself looked precisely like the picture. If you would like to recognise what it sounds like, go to [...], and find this ocarina beneath the Fans of Zelda tab, there’s a video there showing the ocarina being played.
I recieved the ocarina two hours ago, and already I may play three songs, albiet, not very well! But it’s a good start. Some of the finger positions may take a great deal of time getting applied to if this is your basi ocarina, as it is mine. I found the guide books helpful, if not more or less mixing up at first. The original just teaches you the respective notes, and the numbers assigned to them, and gives you a few simple songs such as Happy Birthday and Jingle Bells to learn. The second is the book with the zelda songs. Reading off the numbers if you never done so is the mixing up portion for myself, as I at times get sure notes mixed up. However, I am sure once I have a day or two to practice, they will become much easier. There are a wondrous amount of songs in the book. Again, if you would like to see what songs specifically, go to STLocarina’s main site, and go to the sheet music tab, find the Zelda book that comes with this ocarina and it will give a full list of the songs you will be getting.
Overall, I in truth get enjoyment from this ocarina, and it is a outstanding offer! And don’t give up if your notes/songs don’t sound the best at first, because even if it is comparatively easy to play equated to galore of the harder instruments, it still takes time and exercise to learn how to make notes sound clear and precise.
It’s a joy to be capable to play the songs that I’ve always loved in the game!

The only reason it’s 5* because there’s no 6* By A Gamer I’m not a professional at all. But for this ocarina, that is exclusively irrelevant. Though I’m not a professional, I’m sure I play rather well on this after just a couple of days! Just FYI, buy this on the stlocarina official site, it’s cheaper.
Pros; It’s sinfully pretty and looks closely like the Ocarina of Time. It’s made solid and tuned rather well. The manual that’s included with it helps a bit. Sounds wonderful! When you have proper breath control, it sounds even better. For adults, it will have to be easy to handle and to cover the holes. This is unquestionably not for kids though. Finally, it’s perfective for beginners and it’s competent to take them into intermediary proficiencies at the very least. This ocarina is earsplitting sufficient to not get drowned out by other instruments but it’s still soft sufficient to sound pretty like I cited before.
Cons; It MAY be fragile… I haven’t dropped it nor do I plan on it, so I can’t say for sure. You may get started as a beginner but you will not be competent to get better without learning proper breath control, which you will need to learn on your own (little breath on low notes, and more breath on high notes). Since it’s a 1 hole (where you blow into) ocarina, it is fixed in the notes it may play, but it is still rather variable. This ocarina is very deafening in enclosed spaces, so watch your ears! The only other con is this, it doesn’t look precisely like the ocarina in the game, which is a 7 hole ocarina (don’t know if there are another 2 thumb holes at the bottom) which is made by another company, but it doesn’t sound closely as good as this one.
Other Comments; Buy this on STLOcarina’s official website, they have sales and everything! I purchased a package which included this ocarina, a carrying case, and a Zelda songbook! It was all $84 with free shipping with any order over $80. If you get started playing this and like it, it’ll be hard to stop, in fact you might want to buy a bunch of other of their ocarinas! Which include ocarina’s shaped like rupees!
And lastly, this instrument is easy to learn, difficult to master and even more rewarding! I’ve played the Market Theme and the Shop Theme at my local gamestop a bunch of times.
