This is a question oftentimes asked by artists starting out in a sure medium. Oils, acrylics and watercolor paints, amongst others, all offer student and artisan quality paints. In order to determine which paint is best for you to use you need to understand what the divergences are in them.

Differences in the Two Types of Paint

Many artists likewise ask what is the divergence amongst the two types of paint? Well to start out off with the student paints are cheaper. This is achieved in dissimilar ways depending on the medium. For example, in oils the student quality paints have extenders added and so incorporate less pigment. Also, lower quality and less highpriced pigment is employed in making them. Also, in watercolor paints higher quality pigments are applied which will give better and more glorious results.

Deciding Factors on Which Type to Buy

There are a number of constituents that you need to take into thoughtfulness when resolving which type of paint to use, including the following:

  • Are you on a peculiarly tight budget?
  • Are you creating the painting for yourself or for somebody else?
  • Are the pigments you need for your painting available in each type of paint – student and artist?
  • How permanent do you want the results to be?

For example, if you are creating a piece to put in an exhibition or for sale, you are more likely to want to use higher quality paints with more splendid and longer lasting pigments. If, however, you are just creating art for yourself or doing a great deal of test pieces before doing the end painting, then student quality paint is fine.

One other feature of the for less paints that I have found in particular in acrylics is that if you utilise a wash over cheap paints then it may at times take off the existent paint even if it has already dried, nevertheless this is not he case with more costly paint.

Another tip is to use student quality paints for your underneath painting. Often you do not need strong pigments in your underneath painting and these will not have an effect on the end result as you may use artisan quality paint on the final layer. So for beginners, student quality paints are fine and as you get more accomplished you may more on to the artisan quality paints. After all, there is not much point in spending more cash on artists materials than you need to.

Long, verbose, time consuming and WORTH EVERY BIT OF IT!

Was an assigned text for an upper level university Management course. Excellent choice. The content made sense, was well written/easy to read, and continually built on earlier chapters.

It’s still on my shelf as a reference I refer to oftentimes in my business. Wouldn’t be without it!
