Some people say that out of all the members of the sax family, the soprano sax is the one that has the problem with intonation. This, though a widespread belief, is genuinely not inevitably true as any musical instruments may be plagued with this issue. It just seems to be more noticeable on a soprano as any slight alter in embouchure tension causes a dandier modify in pitch than on an alto or tenor.

Thankfully, there are a few ways to repair this problem without having to throw out your instrument all together or spend hundreds of dollars on it. Furthermore, these fixes are easy sufficient for you not to have to worry with regards to picking one up to learn it in the initial place.

Adjust Embouchure Tension. One of the most mutual causes of wrong intonation is improper embouchure. Remember the rudimentary idea that proper embouchure requires your jaw to be dropped and your upper teeth to be in contact with the mouthpiece. Moreover, note that too much embouchure tension will require the mouthpiece to be placed too far out on the cork. This in turn will cause the key notes to be flat and the notes on the other end to be sharp.

Get a Suitable Reed. Reed strength is essential when tuning. A reed that is too soft may have a tendency to be flat. Conversely, a reed that is too tough will formulate sharp notes. Ideally, a beginner will have to in general begin on a 2-strength reed and move up to 2 and a half once the embouchure muscles strengthen.

Also, it is not a good idea to make dynamic changes in the reed that you use because you will have to make drastic breath support adjustments that will most in all likelihood cause intonation problems.

Use a Proper Mouthpiece. For beginners, it is key to know that while most student saxophones are satisfactory, most of the time the mouthpieces that come with them must not be but rather replaced. Mouthpieces are made with a heap of dissimilar internal dimensions that directly affect intonation, thus, it must always be matched with the saxophone and embouchure of the musician.

It is commended that young players use hard rubber mouthpieces with a medium tip opening and chamber.

The three tips brought up above must support fix the intonation difficulties you may be experiencing with your soprano sax. But do keep in mind that another option may be to just keep practicing. Naturally, an intonation issue may result from a hardware problem but it too may be caused by inexperience. Remember that perfection may be achieved through persistence and hard work–that is still the best way to hone your skills, including your intonation, on your sax. There are lots of instructional material to help you with this, all you have to do is choose which one to go with.

Professional Sax Player LOVES this product!

I did a lot of exploration into this Sax Strap because I wanted to buy this for my picky boyfriend who is a professional musician. He has employed the same strap for 15 years and it in the end just broke. Silly thing but he was paralyzed with anxiety over the issue. What if there isn’t a strap at all like the one he applied in the past – how would he do this?
I found that the hook, the fastener and the padding were well commended so I purchased this one. He LOVES IT! He genuinely complained it was making him sad that he had to switch away from this strap when playing his Alto/Tenor Sax – so I purchased one for the Alto/Tenor(s) as well! All three horns are delighted – as is the musician. No more complaining!

This is an amazingly comfortable strap. I read the overwhelmingly positive reviews here before purchase, but I was still enjoyably amazed at how good this strap is when it arrived. It is so comfortable that at times I even forget that I have my saxophone with me… unquestionably a hazard

Good Strap!

This strap is a good, solid, comfortable neck strap. The hook is plastic coated metal, and the padding is neoprene. Overall, it is plainly a good sax strap.
