Designed by James Earle Fraser and minted amongst 1913 and 1918, the Buffalo Nickel is one of the most popular American coins. A student of the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens – who designed the beauteous $20 Double Eagle – Fraser included his initial, “F,” on the obverse side beneath the date.

An American Bison appears on the reverse. The model was most likely a buffalo named Black Diamond who lived in Central Park at the time the coin was designed.

A portrait of a Native American chief appears in the obverse. The portrait is in truth a composite of various chiefs who modeled for Fraser. They were performing in one of the standard Wild West shows in New York.

Although production of the nickels stopped in 1918, they were in circulation for decades.

In 1982, Congress authorized the production of U.S. commemorative coins to honor significant people and events in American history. And in 2000, the issuance of a silver dollar commemorating the opening of the National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian Institution was approved.

There were only 500,000 of the American Buffalo Silver Dollars minted. They in the first place sold for $35, with a percentage of the sale going to support fund the museum. The silver dollars were initial available June 1, 2001, and were all sold in three weeks time.

Composed of 90% and 10% alloy, they weigh 26.73 grams and are 1.5″ in diameter. The proof coins were minted in Philadelphia, and the uncirculated ones were minted in Denver.

There are slight divergences amongst the Buffalo silver dollars and the basi nickels. “Liberty” is inscribed to the right of the Indian’s profile on the obverse. And “United States of America” and “In God We Trust” are above the buffalo on the reverse,

Buffalo dollars are available on the U.S. Mint web web site and through coin dealers. Uncirculated and Proof versions trade for $233 and $270, respectively, which means they were a very good investment. Coins that were one of the 50,000 American Buffalo Coinage and Currency sets are even more valuable.

The U.S. Mint has issued commemorative coins each year since 1982. Silver dollars are among the most collectible types of coins produced. In 2010, two commemorative silver dollars are being minted – one honoring the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and one honoring the American Veterans Disable for Life.

In 2011, the U.S. Army and the Medal of Honor will be celebrated with commemorative silver dollars.

The Sterling Silver 5 MM Round Black Cubic Zirconia Stud Post
Friction Back Earrings are definately worth the buy.
They look just like the picture, the stone does not stick
out far from the ear, and the post, being sterling silver, is
very strong and not flimsy at all.

I love mine and wear them everday, Definately worth the buy!

Nice earrings for lowcost price

These earrings are outstanding if you want to show numerous style, but not seem overly flashy. The are comparatively little (about the size of a Dippin Dot), but they have good shine. I liked these because they were a low price and permitted me to sport a stylish earring without seeming garish.
