A saxophone is a musical instrument that belongs in the woodwind category. It is one of the youngest musical instruments, having been devised in the 1840s by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian. Saxophones were earlier employed in the military and in huge orchestras but are now found in littler bands as well. They are in general used for huge band music, pop music, concerts, marching bands and jazz music. There are four normally employed kinds of saxophones: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones.
The alto saxophone is the most mutual saxophone in use. It is a basic model, and is in general preferent for beginners because of it is comfortable shape and size. The alto is of medium size. It is shaped like a “J” bent backwards. Some alto saxophones are also straight in shape with a somewhat tipped bell. The alto is normally preferent for classical compositions from composers like Ibert, Glazunov and Debussy.
The alto, like all other saxophones, is a transposing instrument. It is in the key of E-Flat. It is somewhat longer than the soprano, and likewise lower sounding. Hence, it is a preferent solo jazz instrument.
The main elements in an alto saxophone are: the mouth-piece, including the ligature and the reed; the main tube that has tone holes and keys; a series of rods that connect the keys to the tone holes; the pads that securely cover the tone holes and, most importantly, the bell.

Great instrument… By Connie T. Great saxophone! I purchased my LJ Hutchen sax regarding a year ago from a music store for a much higher price (I genuinely kicked myself when I saw it here for so cheap!) I am buying another one for my nephew to play on for his school band this coming fall, and this time through Amazon! This sax has a clear sound and it actually plays great. I recognise my nephew will love it!

Great product, outstanding value! By Barbara Porter I am thrilled with this saxophone – it not only looks great, it also sounds great! The case is nice and sturdy with top and side handles, and is also nicely lined. My son just started taking lessons, and fell in love with it the moment he saw it – which is motivating him to exercise closely each day (without my prodding!). This is my second LJ Hutchen buy from Hyson (purchased a flute last year for my daughter which we are evenly happy with).
