And no matter which you choose, you get a great design and great construction that will give you years of musical enjoyment. See for yourself!

One of my bestloved all time musicians is Edgar Winter. He’s one of a very few alto sax players that inspired my playing as a tenor saxophonist. He’s one of those guys that get’s a actually good, huge raunchy rock & roll sound on the alto sax. When persons talk in regards to rock & roll sax it’s almost always referring to a tenor player, but Edgar just screams and wails as bad as any rockin’ tenor.

I’ve talked to persons that knew of Edgar Winter and didn’t even realize he was a saxophonist. Truth is he’s so multi gifted he doesn’t even need to pick up his horn. The guy sings and plays keyboards just as well. Some of his big hit songs from the 70′s like “Free Ride” and “Just Hangin Around” didn’t even have sax in them so it’s understandable how that could get by the casual fan.

Remember his huge hit “Frankenstein”? Didn’t sing in this instrumental but displayed his awful natural abilities and qualities on the timbale solo, synthesizer solo, and sax division solo. The same year Frankenstein came out Edgar Winter & The White Trash put out a live album called Roadwork. This album is great on so numerous levels. Besides the band leader on vocals, piano, and alto sax, there was another great singer named Jerry Lacroix who also played sax (tenor) and Jon Smith who played most of the rockin’ tenor sax solos.

While the Frankenstein record was being played on all FM radio stations in North America the Roadwork album came out and was completely different. White Trash played R&B, rootsy rock & roll, gospel, and funk flavored tunes. You couldn’t pigeon hole these guys like you could each other artisan that was on the radio in those days, I guess thats why I like them so much, they genuinely were different.

A little later in 1974 The Edgar Winter Group freed “Shocktreatment”, a rockin’ album full of outstanding pop songs. A good example of Edgar’s sax sound is on a outstanding Dan Hartman song “Easy Street”. Hartman was a gifted songwriter and the bass player in this group’s line up. This Edgar Winter alto sax solo is not short of perfect!

5good sax, outstanding sound, can not beat the price.
By Lemmy
i play a great deal of insruments in my free time, in the past 20 yrs i have went through in regards to 5 saxophones. from 50$ to 500$, from alto to tenor, all used, never had a new sax. so i saw this on musicians friend w a employed price of 256, and did a quick google search for a musicans friend coupon code, and got an extra 30 off, and with a 45 day garuntee. thinking im taking a huge gamble with my time, i could not be more pleased. initial thing i noticed was how easy it is to play, and how full of a sound it has. i have never sounded so good on sax. it is very well built, nice wieght, all around good sax, esp for beginners. pads fit very snugg, keys respond very well, on occasion when you see lacquered sax, it is not impressive at all, dull shine and cheap apperance, not the case here, this is a case of a musical instrument price going down, not the quality. i have hung out in music stores since the 80s, this quality, this price, was not availible even in the 90s. in my introductory 2 days im thrilled, will add an update in a couple of months.
update,, still love it, so easy to play, rich full sound/ i love it!

4Good value… BUT….
By L. Garcia
My husband and I have both played saxophone since we were young… our children are starting now. This saxophone looks great, and we both tried it out and it was a nice instrument. Great price… can’t beat it!

**Edited to add:**

I think it primary to add one critical fact I was not conscious of when I purchased this instrument:

It is a FIRST ACT instrument… i.e. if it breaks, you can not repair it. Research this prior to settling if this saxophone is for you.

It is still working well for us, but I am wary because I would not have purposely purchased a “throw-away” instrument. I suppose for the price, it’s still doable– even two of these is still less than most other saxes I found, but First Act is not in general considered a good thing among musicians.

5I’m pleased with it
By James B. Ross
I’ve been playing clarinet and decisive to undertake a sax. I was hesitant when it comes to buying an inexpensive sax. But I’m well pleased with this one. It’s posing no difficulty to play than my clarinet, and sounds great. It’s a heavy horn and appears to me to be rather well built. Everything works on it and it doesn’t appear to be flimsy at all. It has a great deal of pretty good sound. At least for me as a raw beginner.

You can’t beat it at this price, and it even comes with a nice case too.
