Micro Clarinet Kit – #5170

The way this product is staged is a bit misleading. By writing this review, I want to make it clear what this kit is and is not. A pad broke on my clarinet. I looked around for ways to fix it short of paying a music shop for the highpriced fix ($37.50 to replace one pad). I looked at assorted solutions here at Amazon, including a finish pad set, this kit, and other kits. I was amazed that a repair kit like the Micro Clarinet Kit – #5170 would be so cheap. To just buy all the pads is $28.00. But I have Scottish blood and will buy a questionable product if the savings are substantial. It wasn’t until I got this kit in the mail (it took in regards to a week) that I could see what it is. The original thing is that it is labeled, “…should be in each clarinet player’s case for an emergency.” It doesn’t say anyplace in the Amazon publicity that it is a temporary fix. There is one of each size pad, or five in all. There is a little piece of cork, a few springs, a heap of cement, and a little piece of sandpaper. The entire kit fits in a gorgeous little cardboard box (2.5″ by 3.75″). There are some simple instructions on how to replace cork, but not one thing in regards to how to fix pads or springs. I ended up taking my clarinet to the shop anyway. Apparently to do the repair right they have to take the instrument isolated and heat the pad and use particular glue. I don’t recognise much regarding instrument repair. This kit might be good for a professional musician who needs to repair a pad or cork or a spring on the spot temporarily (if they recognise how).
