Jones = GARBAGE

I am a bassoonist that has been making bassoon reeds for 17 yrs now, and I am shocked that Jones still manages to stay in business. Sure, it may be a cheap reed, but remember, you get what you pay for. The reeds are ofttimes unbalanced, the wires are loose, the blades of the reed shift very easily. If you’re a beginning bassoonist and you’re looking for a good reed, look elsewhere — a bassoonist will only play as well as their reed allows them to, and Jones reeds will only hold you back.

If you have no other number of things from which only one can be chosen locally, then I’d suggest finding a quality, reputable reedmaker online, because these reeds are merely poorly constructed.

I have only been playing the bassoon for in regards to one year, and have found the reed is very important…and now and again it’s very hard to find one that works for you. I have tried in regards to five dissimilar brands, with Jones being one of them. I tried only one reed, and found it a bit more toward the medium than the soft, and for me at least it was difficult to play a lot of notes and in frequent was not fun to play. Again, I am still somewhat new to the bassoon, and what works or doesn’t work for me may not be the same for others.

Good beginner reed

My son just started playing the bassoon and was using the school reed. After buying him this reed, he could tell a big betterment over the range and sound of the notes. I’ll have to do not forget to buy this one again.
