Whether you are a student or a professional, finding the perfective flute is at least partly a matter of personal preference. What “feels” rectify to one musician might not work so well for another. Fortunately, Yamaha makes various models of flutes for both amateurs and professionals.
The YFL-221 general student flute is in the key of C, with an offset-G (to be more reachable with the pinkie finger) and silver plated finish. All three pieces, headjoint, body, and footjoint are made of nickel-silver. The bumpers are made of Neoprene rather than cork for longevity.
The YFL-321 is another C flute with offset-G, but this one has a great deal of extra features for better tone resonance. It has an undercut and beveled embouchure hole for more sensible response. The posts are stronger, adjustment screws are without apparent effort accessible, and there is a body marking for positioning the footjoint properly. The head is sterling silver, with a silver plated nickel-silver body, footjoint, and keys.
For professionals, the Yamaha YFL584H is a French model with an in-line G and a B-footjoint, which allows the range to go lower than those with a regular footjoint. The head is sterling silver EC cut, with a silver plated nickel silver body, keys, and footjoint. It has French style pad cups and arms. This flute has superior tone quality and white gold springs for great response. The tone core is tightly focalized in all ranges.
Another professional model is the Yamaha YFL684H. It has in-line G keying and the outstanding tone quality that comes from sterling silver construction. The embouchure hole is undercut for precise articulation, and like the 584H it has white gold springs for optimal action and a low B footjoint.
The YFL784H has sterling silver construction throughout, for unparalleled tone and response. Its tapered pivot screws make for easy, precise adjustment. This is a top of the line flute.
The main divergences among Yamaha ordinary and professional flutes are the type of materials from which they are made. Generally, the higher-end flutes have more sterling silver, while the usual models have less. But all are made with traditionalisti Yamaha quality control.

 Trill Key Spring too short/ Flat Key lost screw & washer

Daughter has had the flute for 3 weeks and complains daily with regards to the sound. The spring for the trill keys are the problem, according to our local horn shop;but they will not even touch it. Now we will have to deal with the headache of attempting to get it fixed on the warranty or returning it.
REVISION: Just got off the phone with Hyson Musical Instruments – They are apologetic with regards to this flute and are sending a new one to switch with. They are amazed it happened but stand behind their sales & service.
Was going to bump up the star rating but it doesn’t modify in the edit mode! (Amazon may we repair that)
2nd Revision: They sent me a new one and I sent the other one back.
Just got off the phone again with Hyson Musical Instruments – They are very apologetic with regards to this flute: They were calling to insure me that they received the flute and all charges were taken care of. They genuinely want to make sure my daughter was happy with the sound and that if anything must arise to please contact them. They made this interchange as easy as possible and their follow up has been impeccable.

 A dream come unfeigned (LJ Hutchen Silver C Flute)

I purchased from LJ Hutchen the C Silver Flute, to my biggest surprise it arrived the very next day I couldn’t believe it, they deliver rather fast but most important, the flute is so beautiful, solid and sounds magnificent, I have been looking for a good instrument for sometime, and since flutes may be rather pricey I was thinking regarding buying a good employed one. I read a lot before making a decision, getting a new inexpensive one was out of the question since it seemed, they all have the same troubles like keys getting stuck or falling apart: loose keys. I highly commend getting this brand, for few more dollars you get a brand new quality instrument which has a warranty of two years that is how sure they are in regards to what they make. It comes ready to play, tuned. I am so happy with it and you will be too. I am genuinely thankful to them for making such pretty instruments and to the clients who take the time to give their sentiment which at the end is the most priceless one. service is magnificent as well. They is worthy of 10 stars.

Great choice!

My daughter’s private teacher commended this flute for her and she loves it. Her teacher said it was a outstanding deal and that it would be perfective for her. The price is great and we are very happy with this instument.
