One of the worlds most widely known and esteemed leather ligatures, the Rovner ligature may be applied in the regular position or inverted.

Mankind has been enthralled by the sound of the clarinet instrument for centuries and it remains to this day a major factor of an orchestra.

Clarinet instrument bodies have been made from a potpourri of materials including wood, ivory resin, metal, hard rubber, and plastic. The vast majority used by professional musicians are made from African hardwood. Historically boxwood was used.

The most inexpensive clarinets are made of plastic resin. This material is on occasion referred to as ‘resonite’ which is actually a trademark of Selmer. Metal soprano clarinet instruments were usual in the early 20th century until plastic productions took over. Some metal clarinets are still in use nonetheless principally for the bodies of some specialized instruments and in the necks and bells of others.

Buffet Crampon’s Greenline clarinet instruments are made from a composite of granadilla wood powder and carbon fiber. These clarinet instruments are less affected by humidity and temperature changes than the wooden instruments.

Clarinet mouth pieces are in general made of hard rubber, though inexpensive mouthpieces may be made of plastic. Other materials such as wood, ivory, metal and even glass have been applied in the past.

Ligatures for a clarinet are ordinarily made from metal and plated in nickel, silver or even gold. Wire, wire-mesh, plastic, naugahyde, string and leather have also been used at dissimilar times for ligatures.

The clarinet uses a single reed from the arundo donax grass even though fictitious synthetic materials are more commonly employed these days. The ligature fastens the reed to the mouthpiece. When air is blown through the opening amid the reed and the mouthpiece facing, the reed vibrates and gives rise to the distinguishable clarinet instrument sound.

Most clarinetists buy fabricated reeds and make the necessary adjustments to suit themselves. Some make their own to suit their queer clarinet instrument.

Rovner is the best

My private teacher suggested that I get the Rovner 1r dark ligature when
my old one broke. It without delay bettered my tone, and permitted me to hit those high notes with ease. I commend this ligature for all clarinet players, begginers or proffesional.

A “must” for the enthusiastic student

I purchased this ligature, along with my Selmer Prelude CL771.

Two things helped in my decision…
a. The metal ligature included with the original instrument normally sounds a little “cranky” (at least for the beginner)
b. Metal ligatures commonly leave marks in the mouthpiece

Even as a beginner, I may utterly tell apart the divergence amongst the metal and this ligature… Sound comes out with a much more fulfilling and pleasant body.

In conclusion: an inexpensive accessory that helps bettering sound quality from the start!
