Sax Ligature

One of the worlds most widely known and esteemed leather ligatures, the Rovner ligature may be employed in the regular position or inverted.

The ligature is what holds the reed onto the mouthpiece. All ligatures are not produced equal. I believe that the ligatures that firmly attach on the top (screws on top) are superior to the bottom fastening screws. Two of my bestloved ligatures are the Rovner Lite, and the Olegature.

The Rover Lite will cost in regards to $25.00 but will make a big divergence in the way you sound. If you choose a Rovner, pick the lite model that has a hole in the top; it allows the reed to vibrate more. When using Rovners, always tighten the screw beauteous much as tight as you may with your fingers. You don’t want to use pliers, but just finger tight. This will in truth heighten the sound. Never leave a tight ligature on a mouthpiece if you are not playing. You could crack the mouthpiece.

The Olegatures have a nice sound like the rovner, but a little brighter. You’ll compensate in regards to $60.00 for the olegature. When buying a ligature, you ought to always make sure it fits on your mouthpiece. The cheap metal ligatures that most rental horns come with, will do the trick, but there is more you may get out of a nice ligature.

To improve your sound most dramatically, the best thing you may do is get a professional mouthpiece. The second best thing is to get a good ligature. With those two things you may genuinely sound better. The best instrument in the world will not sound outstanding with a lousy mouthpiece and ligature, but a cheap instrument may sound finelooking good with a good mouthpiece and ligature.

5Customize your sound with ease
By Andrea L. Polk
If you play you know that metal ligatures are the norm. They hold the reed in place on the saxophone’s mouthpiece, and you loosen or tighten it to get the right sound.

This Rovner ligature is made of a rubber (sort of like the inside of a bike tire in consistency – thin but tough) and holds the reed in place while supplying a warmer tone, a bit more flexibleness for the reed and the capacity to tilt the reed with ease to give rise to the sound you’re looking for without too much effort. The modify is sound is subtle, but noticeable, in a nice way!

It does take galore getting used to, but once you do I think you’ll find it superior to metal ligatures. Directions for getting it to work best for you are in the box. Follow them and within a very short amount of time of time you’ll be making sweet music!

NOTE: this item also comes with a plastic cap for an alto saxophone mouthpiece. The cap is rather cheaply made, but it does the job.

1Saxophone Ligature

I hate this ligature. Slips all the time, can’t get a good tight grip on the reed to hold it in place and stretchings out. A piece of crap as far as I’m concerned.
