Ocarinas shaped like birds and animals could also be found in India as early as 5000 BC. China had it is own rounded and egg-like forms called a Xun. In 1527, Cortes sent a group of Aztec performers to Spain, where they introduced the Ocarina to Europe. They remained a popular toy for more than 340 years until 17 year old musician-baker Guiseppe Donati originated the primary pitched diatonic scale ocarinas.
To play the ocarina, hold it at a 45-degree downward slope from your lips. The thumbs cover the bottom holes and the Index and Middle fingers of each hand cover the top holes. Angling the ocarina up so that your upper lip impinges on the labium window will fabricate sharps, or flatten the tones.

Great product and service By Courtney I hesitated to buy this because I read the other review on this seller, but it was the type and style I wanted. I just got it today and it’s perfect. It arrived safely precisely when the company said it would and sounds beautiful. I’m happy with it, so I’m going to be buying more ocarinas from ActiveMusician. It’s well tuned and little and the leather strap is very sturdy so I won’t have to worry when it comes to it falling detached when I’m wearing it. As a tenor D, it’s perfective for sitting outside in the park.
I’m new to playing the ocarina, but this style is very easy to pick up. It’s a 4- to 6-hole, with four on the top and two on the bottom. I may use all my flute, recorder and piano music with it. It has 13 dissimilar notes, so there are loads of free music for it on the web. If you are a fan of the Legend of Zelda series, this ocarina may play all of the tunes from the game with ease.
Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better product or shipping service from ActiveMusician.

It was alright By Lenne I agree with the other reviews, I love the way it is nicely shaped, and how compact it is and the strap is perfect. But the sound gets very airy when going to to high notes, so I say this is great for beginners who want to get a feel of an ocarina. But I also commend that once you get employed to it to consider a more professional ocarina.

Pleasant surprise! By W. Wiedman I purchased this for my daughter who is a big Zelda fan. It wasn’t the same as the video game item but was more prominent than I expected! It plays gorgeous music once you know how to play it. A pleasant surprise! Excellent condition!
