4Yahama over-hyped this one
By Image Comm
As I write this review, I am listening to my bestloved music DVD (Eagles, hell freezes over), and I have the volume cranked to regarding 70% to match the listening volume of the Yamaha HTR 5790 (50% volume) that this RX-A1000 replaced. The 5790 had 110 watt vs 105 watt per channel for the RX-A1000. It was time to replace my 5790 because I not long ago purchased a Samsung 8000 series LED TV and wanted to pass 1080p signals from my BluRay player to the TV by way of the Yamaha receiver. The 5790 did not have any HDMI ports and you can’t pass 1080p signals through factor cables. The old Yamaha could not procedure Dolby True HD either. One of the nice features on this new receiver is the capacity to pass video and audio to the TV thru the HDMI cables even when the receiver is off. How cool is that? We don’t always need 735 watts, in particular when we are only observing a news channel. Another cool feature is the NET Radio. I connected the RX-1000′s LAN jack to my router (via a gigabit switch)and 24 hours later (I could not get it to work imediately), I am listening to 15,000 radio stations. It took 24 hours for the receiver to figure out it was connected to a computer network? I don’t understand why it didn’t work right away. I checked all my settings over and over and then turned it off when my forbearance started wearing a little thin. The next day when I turned it on, the NET radio was working. This unit is when it comes to a $200 step up from my old receiver, but in my sentiment does not match the sound of my older Yahama unit. Gosh, did 5 watts make the difference? Yamaha expended 2 years designing and building the Aventage series from the chassis up. This was not a redesign, (building and bettering on an existent chassis), it is a finish new design including the number of feet (5) on the bottom. Well all in all I like this unit, but if I had it to do over, I would have waited a month and purchased the RX-A2000. The RX-A2000 has video processing and upscaling that would improve the picture quality of whatsoever you are jacking into it, as well as 130 watts per channel.

5Awesome!

I purchased this receiver from the Amazone Marketplace and just finished the connections to my Klipsch Reference Series speakers with Center, Left + Right, 2 Presence Speakers, surround speakers (L+R+Back) and a 15″ Subwoofer.
I upgrated from an older Yamaha 5.1 receiver and added the front L+R speakers. The sound is just amazing. I also purchased the iPod dock which works utterly great with the iPod Touch. However, it does not work with the iPhone 4. I am getting the Panasonic Viera TV in a couple of weeks and with the Panasonic 3D DVD player, I don’t think I will be going to the movies as often. this receiver is a great product and it is built to last.
The on-screen menu is easy to comprehend and very quick when altering sound programs etc.

2One month of light use and the power supply died
By Susan G. Wood
Oh! How disappointing, “upgraded” to this receiver after much soul searching. Had a new home built and had it wired for 7.1 surround with a pair of speakers outdoors off the zone2 speaker outputs. All new speakers, had the wiring checked for continuity and found no shorts.
We had a devoted 20 amp curcuit installed just for the A/V instrumentation and had everything powered thru a line conditioner. The receiver was installed in a cabinet without front or back plates and had 3 inches of clearance above the receiver so heat was never an issue.
We were auditioning the scheme for a few friends and heard a “POP” when switching sources. Thought it was a fluke except it did the same thing the next day, only worse. We never smelled smoke, but the receiver now won’t even power on. Unplugged the receiver and waited half and hour, used power and had no response to either the remote or receiver buttons.
Now to see how Yamaha well take care of the problem.
We’d upgraded from a Yamaha stereo receiver that we had for the past 15 years with no problems. We had such high expected values for this receiver.
We hope this is an strange event and Yamaha quality is what we’ve believed it to be.
