Buck gets it right

I couldn’t be more pleased with this little knife. For starters, S30V is just when it comes to the perfective all-around knife steel. It’s hard to beat for keeping an edge, ease of sharpening, toughness and strength. Next, the Vantage Pro I received has the Paul Bos logo on it. Bos, who retired not so long ago was Buck’s heat treating guru, known for his capacity to wring each iota of gain out of the blades he worked on. There are very few habit manufacturers who’ll be capable to match the quality of this blade, even at ten times the price.

Speaking of habit knives, the way this one is designed will make it easy to replace the handle scales with something a little fancier than the G10 slabs it comes with. I’m ordering a second Vantage Pro, and replacing the stock scales with padouk or Chinese quince.
